A sampling of faculty, staff, student and alumni happenings:
Aurora González de Freire received the 2019 Julius Glickman Educational Leadership award from Humanities Texas and the Members in Print award from Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for “Harvey Bear Gets Rescued,” her disaster-preparedness children’s book based on Hurricane Harvey. She earned a B.S. in teaching and learning in 1997 and an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction in 2003 from the College.
Several faculty members received UH Alternative Textbook Incentive Program awards for 2019-20. Funds will go toward implementation of an open or alternative textbook in their courses: Eulises Avellaneda, a clinical assistant professor of bilingual education; Kristen Hassett, a clinical associate professor of special populations; Laura Turchi, an assistant professor of secondary education; and Jane Cooper, a clinical assistant professor of teacher education.
Ashley Taylor, a doctoral student in the counseling psychology program, was recently appointed student representative for the UH Institutional Review Board 1. The board is responsible for protecting the rights and welfare of human subjects in research.
